Home-grown business wins big in 2016

For Milton Keynes-based medical recruiter National Locums, winning the  ‘Business of the Year’, and doubling up with the ‘Professional Practice’ accolade, in the 2016 Milton Keynes Business Achievement Awards, meant that most precious of assets - external and independent validation of their outstanding performance and talents.

It is certainly a remarkable story. A business which began operating from the kitchen table of a modest Milton Keynes house in 2009, has now become one of the fastest-growing medical recruitment agencies in the UK, supplying locum doctors, nurses and allied healthcare professionals to the NHS and independent hospitals.

On track for a turnover in excess of £19m in the current financial year, National Locums supplies more than 200 hospitals; has more than 6,500 doctors and 3,000 nurses on its candidate books; and employs 65 staff at its Old Wolverton headquarters.

We caught up with National Locums managing director David Cook to see what affect the wins had on the business, “Winning at the Milton Keynes Business Achievement Awards was a recognition of our commitment to excellence in everything we do, and our ability to help hospital clients meet their staffing needs at a time when NHS budgets are under enormous pressure.”

David went on to talk about what it has meant for the staff at National Locums, “It’s a terrific achievement for the whole team, who are recruited almost exclusively from the Milton Keynes area, particularly as we were up against some of the most successful businesses in the region.”

It can sometimes be difficult to quantify the benefit to companies who enter and ultimately go on to win in these type of Awards but David concluded, "We are firm believers that entering, and winning, award schemes such as MKBAA acts as a valuable tool for winning new business and helping to motivate and inspire our staff."
