Awards Return for Third Consecutive Year
Organised by the Milton Keynes Business Leaders Partnership (MKBLP), in partnership with full service marketing agency Interdirect and event management experts Evolution, the awards were launched with a celebratory event on Thursday 3 September at Holiday Inn Milton Keynes.
The event, which welcomed more than fifty guests including sponsors and previous MK BAA winners saw Dr Philip Smith, chair of MKBLP, announce actress and comedienne Debra Stephenson as compère of evening on 10 March 2016 at DoubleTree by Hilton, stadium:mk.
Furthermore, the 2016 awards will also see the launch of a refined entry process to ensure a more efficient process for all entrants. Companies can submit a short entry in stage one, and if successful will have the opportunity to submit further information in stage two. In addition, business persons will have the opportunity to nominate a company for an award.
The awards, established in 2014, recognise the achievements of Milton Keynes businesses of a variety of sizes and sectors. Entries are now open, with twelve categories including innovation and technology, logistics and distribution, and new business available to enter online. The prestigious Business of the Year and coveted Lifetime Achievement Award will also be presented on the night at DoubleTree by Hilton, Milton Keynes. Previous winners include Christian Horner and Pete Winkelman.

“With a refined entry process, an engaging and hilarious compère and a few surprises up our sleeve including Daisy the cow…watch this space!...it’s sure to be a fantastic occasion for the Milton Keynes business community.”
The launch event also provided an opportunity for previous winners to share their MK BAA experience. Last year’s winners of the design and creativity award, White Leopard spoke of what winning a Business Achievement Award meant for them:
“We entered the awards to gain valuable insight into the MK business community, and ultimately raise awareness of the work that we do as a creative design agency,” said George Lah-Anyane, senior designer at White Leopard.
“When we were announced as winners on the night, it was the icing on the cake! Since winning, and continuing to share our success with clients and suppliers, we have been recognised as one of the great success stories in our region and have gone on to win new business including working with MK BAA headline sponsors, The Open University.”
Speaking of the awards, Steve Hill, commercial director of the business development unit at the OU who presented the ‘Business of the Year 2015’ award to The Bletchley Park Trust said: “Milton Keynes has a thriving local economy and we are proud of our continued collaboration with MKBLP, as well as other local organisations, to ensure economic growth and sustainability in the area.
“Sponsoring the MK Business Achievement Awards and celebrating the accomplishments of local businesses is something that we are passionate about at the OU.”
The awards will also be headlined sponsored by University College Milton Keynes (UCMK). Mary Malcolm, Pro Vice Chancellor of the University of Bedfordshire, was also present at the launch to support the organisation’s commitment to the awards.
Continuing the pledge from the MK BAA steering group to foster the Milton Keynes business community, net proceeds from awards ceremony will go towards the trust fund established by MKBLP with the MK Community Foundation for start up businesses in deprived areas of the city.
