MKBAA is Back!

The countdown to the second Milton Keynes Business Achievement Awards has begun.

Members of Milton Keynes’ Business Leaders Partnership and sponsors of the previous event gathered this week (Thurs Oct 9, 2013) to hear about plans for MK BAA 2015 – building on the success of the inaugural awards held in March.
Dr Philip Smith, chair of MK Business Leaders Partnership, which is presenting the awards in association with full service agency Interdirect and event management company Evolution, said 2015 will be even bigger and better.

•    Bigger – with more award categories, and easier online entry with amended criteria to reflect Milton Keynes’ diverse mix of business sizes and types.
•    Better – with a new venue layout and an after-show party with music.

Philip also announced that the journalist, broadcaster and former war correspondent Kate Adie will be the compere at the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel at Stadiummk on Thursday, March 12, 2015.

“MK BAA 2014 was a resounding success and we are very proud of that achievement, and for 2015 we will make it an even greater celebration of Milton Keynes’ business success,” he told the audience at a reception hosted by The Casino MK.
Philip urged all businesses with an MK postcode to consider entering for an award on the MKBAA website.

Fulfilling a pledge that the net proceeds from the 2014 awards would go towards a trust fund for start-up and emerging businesses, Philip Smith presented a cheque for £5,013 from MK Business Leaders to Julia Upton, chief executive of Milton Keynes Community Foundation, which will administer the fund.

She said the donation came as a report showed that in parts of Milton Keynes two out of five children lived in poverty.  She said: “That cycle can be broken with investment in skills, start-up businesses and social enterprise.  Thank you, and we are looking forward to MK BAA 2015 and will be there rooting for you,” she said.

All set for night of glitz and glamour at the Milton Keynes Business Achievement Awards

Sponsors and supporters celebrate the awardsAs awards fever builds in Hollywood, New York and London, MK is gearing up to hand out its own glittering prizes at the Milton Keynes Business Achievement Awards.

This week, the red carpet was rolled out at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel at stadium:mk, the venue for the black tie MKBAA event being held on March 20 and hosted by BBC presenter Bill Turnbull. The event, on Wednesday, February 5, was the monthly City Breakfast Club, where local business people were lobbied, movie mogul style, by Business Achievement Awards’ ‘co-director’, Nicholas Mann of full service agency Interdirect.

Interdirect is supporting the awards with Milton Keynes Business Leaders Partnership (MKBLP). Philip Smith, chairman of MKBLP, said: “These awards are for local businesses and we hope they will come forward to share their achievements.”

Nicholas said: “Everyone loves success and the Business Achievement Awards will recognise the epic contribution of business in the MK postcode area to the regional economy.

“But unlike awards in the film industry, where the best movies and movie people are nominated by a committee, with the MK Business Achievement Awards you have to enter yourself.

“To have a chance of hearing the name of your business after the words ‘and the winner is...’ get your entry in soon,” Nicholas said.

Entries should be with organisers by February 16, 2014 and they can be submitted easily online at www.mkbaa.co.uk - where all entry details and information to book a table or individual seats can be found.

Major Milton Keynes businesses have been secured as the awards’ sponsors. Shakespeares Solicitors, University Campus Milton Keynes and The Casino MK are headline sponsors, with SEMLEP as general sponsor and DHL, MK Dons, MK Development Partnership, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Cranfield University, Milton Keynes College, Evolution, Keens Shay Keens MK, thecentre:mk, and The Open University as award category sponsors. Destination Milton Keynes, Volkswagen Group Leasing and Palladium Solutions are sponsoring non-award activities.

Proceeds from the awards dinner on March 20 will go to a charity fund administered by Milton Keynes Community Foundation.

Business Achievement Awards website live!

Following the very successful launch of the Milton Keynes Business Achievement Awards (MKBAA), the organisers, Milton Keynes Business Leaders Partnership (MKBLP) in association with Interdirect, are delighted to announce that the MKBAA website is now live and ready for the submission of entries and booking of tables for the gala dinner.

Announcing the launch of the site, Nicholas Mann, managing director of Interdirect which has developed the website on behalf of MKBAA, said:  “We are delighted to have the site up and running and ready to accept entries for the awards.  We have worked hard to ensure that some sophisticated technology is included that enables entrants to apply on line and for us to manage the workflow and judging process.  We believe that this level of sophistication is only currently found around the European business awards so, once again, Milton Keynes is at the forefront of pioneering technology.”

Philip Smith, chair of MKBLP, added:  “The website is designed to be easy to use and enable people to both submit entries and book their tables for the dinner.  We are delighted with the way it looks and performs.

Smith continued, “In addition to our headline sponsors Shakespeares, Casino MK and UCMK, we are able to announce that Price Waterhouse Coopers, MK College, Open University, Evolution and Cranfield University have joined us as sponsors of various categories for the awards, with Palladium Solutions sponsoring a non-award activity.  We look forward to seeing which companies want to ‘get the recognition their business deserves!’ when they submit their entries.”

Milton Keynes business achievements to be recognised by new awards

Recent achievements of Milton Keynes businesses are be recognised and celebrated next year with the launch of the Milton Keynes Business Achievement Awards (MKBAA).  Presented by Milton Keynes Business Leaders Partnership (MKBLP), in association with Interdirect, the awards will recognise achievement in 10 categories, and cover a wide spectrum of business activities.

Speaking at the launch of the awards Philip Smith, chairman of MKBLP, which works to identify and develop strategic interests specific to the business community in the city, said:  “We recognise the need to acknowledge the work of the many organisations in the Milton Keynes area who are doing outstanding work by not only promoting their organisations, but also the city of Milton Keynes, and provide employment and entertainment for the many people who choose to live here.  We hope that the Business Achievement Awards will go some way to recognising those companies and to raise awareness of the extraordinary talent we have. This is all about MK.

I am delighted that we have successfully secured three major Milton Keynes businesses to become the award’s headline sponsors. Shakespeares Solicitors, Milton Keynes University Campus and Casino MK have all recognised the value in the awards. In addition, we are pleased to announce that Business MK as our media partner.”

The awards dinner will be held on 20 March 2014 and award entries will be accepted from 9 December when the MKBAA website is launched.

Nicholas Mann, managing director of full service marketing agency, Interdirect, the joint-organiser and major contributor to the new awards commented:  “I used to very much enjoy the annual awards ceremonies of the past; especially, if Interdirect won! I believe passionately that the achievements of Milton Keynes businesses should be recognised and celebrated on an annual basis. So, when it looked like no awards were to take place this year, I started to think about organising it ourselves, even if it meant Interdirect would not be able to enter.

It appears that Philip and I had a similar idea around recognising Milton Keynes businesses and when we talked it seemed the right thing to combine our skills.  One thing that both Business Leaders and Interdirect are keen to stress is the complete transparency of the application and judging processes.  To this end, all award entries will be submitted online and, in fact, the majority of the judging will be done online as well.

Interdirect is honoured to be a part of the Business Achievement Awards and we look forward to a successful night for Milton Keynes.”

The Awards evening will be a black tie event held at the Double Tree by Hilton at stadium:mk.  Further details will be available later this month, but interested parties can visit the website www.mkbaa.co.uk and register their interest at this stage.
